Snapped this photo in my parents’ back yard. Some kind of wildfire going on in Yakima throwing up all kinds of particulate into the air and making for one of those fantasy sunsets. Not sure if the iphone does it justice.

Green Roofs Taking Shape
July 31st, 2009 by Kent Posted in Blog | No Comments »
Not really a new idea, green roofs can be cheap, less worry than a normal roof, and aesthetically pleasing. As an owner of two Pacific Northwest houses that sit yearlong in our brutal rains and winds, I find green roofs an attractive alternative. Shingles are fragile things and the moss problems are a pain in the ass. And really, if moss can grow up there, why not just let it grow… along with a bunch of other junk! Check out this slide-show of some famous green roofs.

With the president of the United States set to get loaded on beer presidentially sip malt beverages with Henry Louis Gates, Jr., and Sergeant James Crowley AKA the Cambridge police officer who (wrongly?) arrested Gates, a more pressing concern has come to a head: the beer choices. When questioned, press secretary Gibbs revealed the beer selection for the momentous event: Bud Light for Obama, Blue Moon for the po-po, and Red Stripe or Beck’s for Gates. Here’s where the trouble begins:
In a letter to Obama dated Wednesday, Massachusetts Rep. Richard Neal strongly urges the president not to drink Budweiser, now owned by a Belgian company. Nor should the White House consider serving Miller or Coors… Instead, the White House should serve the three men — all with ties to Massachusetts — the local favorite, not only because of its popularity in the region but also because it remains the largest American-owned and brewed beer, Neal says
As you can see, this is the kind of trial that defines the very soul of a nation. If our president is seen drinking beer from a faggy Belgian company, he would be perceived not just as a socialist Kenyan namby-pamby non-American who is soft on defense, but a faggy one too. Unacceptable. Read more here.

Fancy Fast Food
July 1st, 2009 by Kent Posted in Blog | No Comments »
Did it ever seem like a good idea to you to re-process your fast food into a more sophisticated and, er, palatable form? Me neither. But the people who run fancyfastfood.com think otherwse. Witness their McSteak and Potatoes (Big Mac and fries) and the Tacobellini (Fancy Burrito Supreme). There’s a lot of handling of pre-cooked food going on here, which is a little worrisome to me in general, but – egad – look at those Big Mac meat fingerlings…
