As much as we can agree that journalism is the backbone of a democratic society, I’ve been rooting for the demise of actual newspapers for a few years now. I dislike reading them, I hate the ink residue they leave on my fingers, I don’t like seeing them lying on the ground, I don’t like paperboys (real, or the NES game), and I can’t stand the sound of some douchebag fussing and rustling with his NYT as he attempts to fashion it into a readable rectangle. Anyway, this guy has a great piece on the demise of newspapers that I think you should read. He goes pretty deep in his analysis: printing press, Aristotle, AOL, and brings up some of the great points about how the Intertubes have blown the newspaper to smithereens.

They received over 170 billion dollars in taxpayer money to stay afloat. Their shenanigans were hugely responsible for the economic mess the whole world is in. They employed a host of financial alchemists to concoct the mortgage backed securities that brought down the house. Now they will reward these people (some of whom no longer work at the company) with hefty bonuses, and cop the excuse that only these dudes can untangle the mess they created. I’m with Stephen Colbert. Time to start an angry mob.

Got things back into a semblance of shape. I’ve been wanting to do a pure minimalism thing for a long time, and now seemed like a good time after totally borking the upgrade. Anywho there’s still a couple funky things, and I have to fix the photo gallery, but hopefully all else works.

I know, I know. It looks like shit. I did an errant Wordpress upgrade and now we’ve got this obnoxious layout. Been meaning to redesign it anyway now that I know wordpress a lot better, so now is the time I guess. Doh!

Haven’t had any deep thoughts lately, so I’ve turned to the Errol Morris Miller commercials for inspiration. Classic. And ral.
